KANSAS CITY, MO – Join Friends of the River for the epic Battle4KC Lifesaver Star Wars Battle to benefit Children’s Mercy Hospital’s Cystic Fibrosis Center Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 4:00pm at Berkley Riverfront Park. Battle4KC Lifesaver Battle is more than just a fun reason to join together to celebrate our favorite films by staging a Lightsaber battle and set a Guinness Book of World Record. It’s a great opportunity to eliminate a greater evil – Cystic Fibrosis.

“Each year on May 4 Star Wars fans from across the globe celebrate their love for all things Star Wars in coming together for events centered on this official day. May is also Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month.”; said Stefan White, President of Friends of the River KC. “Not only are we going to have a great deal of fun along the way, Battle4KC is to bring awareness of the plight of children with CF; raise money for Children’s Mercy Hospital; and to set a Guinness World Record for our city as the largest Lightsaber battle in the galaxy.”

Battle4KC kicks off with a week of events beginning at Planet Comicon on Friday, April 28; corporate takeovers Thursday and Friday, May 4 and 5 and ends Saturday, May 6 with the lightsaber battle at Berkley Riverfront Park. Organizations and companies across the metro including government agencies, city partners, nonprofits, and landmarks, will participate and join the fun. Festivities that evening include a concert by the Phantastics, best costume contest, live broadcast from www.SciFi4Me.com, collectible museum, group #StrawfieChallenge, activities for kids of all ages and sizes.

Cystic Fibrosis
Cystic Fibrosis is a progressive, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and limits the ability to breathe over time. It is a terminal illness, but recent advances are adding years to the lives of CF Warriors. Proceeds from Battle4KC’s week of events will directly support Children’s Mercy Hospital Cystic Fibrosis Center. Children’s Mercy Cystic Fibrosis Center is certified by the National Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for clinical care, education and clinical research. It is one of the leading centers for treatment in the country, and the number one hospital in the region.
