Missouri River Terminal

Port KC is in the advanced planning stages for the Missouri River Terminal after purchasing the 415-acre site in 2018 from AK Steel Corporation. We are creating the Missouri River Terminal by transforming the site into an intermodal port and hub for Kansas City via a Public-Private Partnership. MRT will increase port activities, provide an efficient and environmentally beneficial transportation alternative, and increase commerce and economic activity in the Blue River Corridor and throughout KC. 

Thanks to a dedicated $30 million by state leaders from the FY 2024 budget, MRT is primed to continue its mission to change Missouri’s waterway and economic landscape. Port KC has also received over $26 million in federal and state funding to cover pre-development activities and continue the growth of KC as the leading transport hub in the Midwest.
